90 G5s locomotives were built for the PRR between 1923 and 1925 at the railroad's Juniata Shops in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Thirty-one more were built between 1924 and 1929 for the Long Island Rail Road, then a PRR subsidiary.

I replaced the open frame motor with a coreless DC motor [[CorelessMotor#A_max_16_2_Watt_3_5_W][Maxon A-max 16 12V/2W]]. The motor starts at about 2 V and draws 130 mA.
